Where I’m From- Anna Chang
I am from chilly ice rinks
From the glittering, shimmering snow
of Russia
The music of orchestras
Just below the Broadway Stage.
That is where my heart lives,
And that is where I intend to stay
I’m from the love of The Phantom of The Opera
The strength and bravery of Les Misérables
From the truth and soul of Mamma Mia,
And all that comes in between those feelings.
I am from women with long legacies,
from the sharp banter of Elizabeth Bennet
the patience of Jane Eyre
The acceptance of differences of Maragaret Hale
I’m from a place of unknown,
Only the wind
and the planets
guide me home.
Inside I am filled with the wonder of life,
Like the sun coming over the trees
In the hopes of a new day
I’m from the rivers,
Sunflowers,
And the Lilies of the Valley,
I’m from the rain.
From the dewdrops and rivulets
That drip down the leaves.
I am from the beauty of 中国,
From the night-lights of 上海.
The warm streets of my mother’s hometown, 杭州,
And from my father’s home of spice, 湖南.
I come from the passion of my father.
The resilience of my mother
The patience of my brother
And the wisdom of my 奶奶
I’m from the root of the great oak
That my family and friends have grown
Once I leave this world behind,
It’ll have been the greatest life I’ll have ever known
